The Ash House – My Review

Hello, all!

Wowza, this book is completely different than anything I typically read. I would classify this as a supernatural/horror read. It is the first of its kind that I have read, and I was pleasantly surprised!

This book essentially follows a dying woman and her son. Because she knows she is dying, she wants to find out if her mother’s home is actually haunted in the hopes that when she dies, she can come back and haunt her son. Creepy right? It may be creepy, but I found myself admiring her determination to want to be there for her family, even in death.

Anyhoo, she goes along, trying to figure out if this house is haunted. She can’t seem to feel or see anything supernatural, but her son does. Her son does over, and over, and over again. He keeps quiet about it for the most part, so no one really knows what is going on. However, the ghosts that he encounters are down right creepy.

Amy Cross does a great job of keeping the reader on the edge of their seats with this one. There were times I felt as if I was watching a horror movie. I made the mistake of reading at night and almost ….ALMOST….needed a night light. DON’T JUDGE ME!

The reason I gave this 4 starts instead of 5 is because of the writing. The writing level is pretty low and it lacks depth. There are parts of the story that are amazingly descriptive, while other parts fall flat. I also gave it 4 stars because parts of the story are dry. I found myself wondering “Okay, where are we going with this” on a few occasions.

Overall, it is a great book for those interested in the things that go BUMP in the night. She depicts the ghosts in a interesting manner that is something right out of a horror movie. The story line is great and you can’t help but feel for the characters. Check it out!

Goodreads Blurb:

Why would anyone ever return to a haunted house?

For Diane Mercer the answer is simple. She’s dying of cancer, and she wants to know once and for all whether ghosts are real.

Heading home with her young son, Diane is determined to find out whether the stories are real. After all, everyone else claimed to see and hear strange things in the house over the years. Everyone except Diane had some kind of experience in the house, or in the little ash house in the yard.

As Diane explores the house where she grew up, however, her son is exploring the yard and the forest. And while his mother might be struggling to come to terms with her own impending death, Daniel Mercer is puzzled by fleeting appearances of a strange little girl who seems drawn to the ash house, and by strange, rasping coughs that he keeps hearing at night.

THE ASH HOUSE is a horror novel about a woman who desperately wants to know what will happen to her when she dies, and about a boy who uncovers the shocking truth about a young girl’s murder.

His Temptation – Review & Tour

Dog walking was supposed to be Katie’s easy third job.
When she answered the ad, she had no idea she’d be working for Clay “The Grinch” Colson—recently retired baseball superstar. He’s every bit as intimidating as the scowl he’s famous for, and Katie believes the rumors she’s heard about how mean he is are true—until she sees him with his overgrown, crazy Boxer, Dixie.
Lucky Katie gets completely unexpected, front-row seats to a side of Clay the tabloids never captured. Every. Single. Morning. And the more she’s exposed to his gruff affection, the more she can’t help thinking there’s so much hiding behind that scowl… The more she wonders what she’d have to do to have him call her his good girl.
Every morning, the sexiest woman he’s ever seen comes to his house and calls him Daddy. Sure, she’s his dog walker, but that doesn’t mean she has the right to sashay into his world every morning, plant that saucy little gaze on him, and say, “Good morning, Daddy.”
Now that’s all he can think about—being her very dirty daddy.

Hello Reading World!

Hello, Everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself. Kendra added me onto her blog so that you can get even more book reviews. YAY!

My name is Tiffany and I live in Las Vegas with Kendra. I pretty much live at her house on my days off. We are pretty much BFFS for life. Haha.

I am 27, I live with my boyfriend and I have 7 animals. Yes…7. I have a dog, 3 cats, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko and we just adopted a baby snake.

We are now accepting tickets to the Tiffany Zoo. Just kidding.

I am an English major. Do not judge my grammar, that is one area of English I never excelled at. I just graduated and will have my $50,000 piece of paper in my hands within the next few months. After that, it is on to my Masters degree in secondary education.

I recently just started reading again. Uhm, what? Yeah…I know, it sounds weird. Other than textbooks, I really did not have a lot of time to read the last few years. It wasn’t until I switched to night shifts that I was able to start reading. I work in customer service and it is pretty quiet after about 9pm. Thus, I get about 2-3 hours of reading in a night, which is awesome.

I approached Kendra about starting to review books myself and she had the idea to add me to the blog since I tend to read things that she doesn’t. I am more of a thriller, murder mystery type of person and she is more of a romance person. So now you get the best of both MMKAY? :]

Anyhoo, just wanted to say “Hello!” and will start reviewing some books for you guys soon. Have a great week!

Truths & Disasters – My Life

Hello, my dear readers. It has been a while. I have absolutely no idea how to start this. My life has been crazy ugh. Well, that’s actually not the word I’d use. There is no word for my life right now.

Hard. Difficult. Exhausting. Demanding. Heavy. Unreal. Scary.

But with these words, come strength.

As most of you may have noticed, I have not been around much since the beginning of the year. This post will explain why. It’s story time, y’all!

2017 has been, by far, the shittiest year I have experienced in my twenty-seven years. It started with an uncertainty that I tried to brush off.

Roommates With Benefits – Blitz

Soren Decker. He’s the epitome of the “bad boy, good man” persona. The best of both worlds. The worst of them too. He’s the type of guy most girls would not mind sharing a confined space with, except my new roommate isn’t all swagger and chiseled abs.

He’s bossy. Messy. Cocky. Infuriating. Doesn’t believe in personal space. Has no qualms about roaming the apartment with a loincloth-sized towel cinched around his waist. Seems under the delusion he’s my personal protector (refer back to infuriating). He plays college baseball and holds down a part-time job—I don’t know where he finds the time to get on my nerves.

We’re got nothing in common . . . except for one thing. Our attraction to one another. And in six hundred square feet of shared space, the tension only has so much room to grow before one of us gives in to temptation. But really, what chance do a couple of young kids chasing their dreams in the big city have of making it?

Since Soren claims I know squat about sports (he might have a semi-point), here’s a stat for him—one in a million. That’s our odds.

Tara Johnson’s sacrifices are about to pay off: a senior executive at thirty-five at a Fortune 500 company, she’s one of the two finalists in line for a Managing Director position. Unfortunately, her rival of fifteen years, the charming, infuriating Richard Boyd, is just as qualified, and unlike her, he’s willing to cross pretty much every line to get what he wants.
Of all the things Tara stored in the attic to make it to the top, it’s her personal life she misses the most. That is, until she starts a steamy affair with sex god Aidan, her direct report. Interoffice relationships with a subordinate can mean the end of a career, and when Richard finds out, it’s the perfect opportunity to take his high-heeled nemesis out, especially since he’s still nursing a grudge against Tara for rejecting him years ago.
But Tara’s increasingly domineering lover has his own dark secrets, endangering more than just her career. As her liaison spirals out of control, salvation will come from the man she always thought she hated, and perhaps the only one to truly understand her.
