Ahhh-mazing. This book had me guessing at every turn! Absolutely loved it! It takes a lot for me to rate 5/5, but this one was that good.
This hooked me before I even opened the book:
“Before she was gone, my mom warned me to know everyone and trust no one. But what was I supposed to do when I found out I am the one not to be trusted? Turns out, I was always the bait in this conspiracy.”
I too, fell in love with Tango, so don’t feel bad Cali. ❤
This book kept me guessing as to who Cali could trust and who she couldn’t. Her dad has been in the CIA, but is on the run for the past few years. Something happened there. Hmm. Anyway, in turn, Cali is on the run because of her father’s decisions and they people out to get him. Her mother died, and she watched her sister be murdered in cold blood.
As the story develops, you start to feel a little sorry for Cali because she has no friends, no parents, no siblings, no one to talk to. However, she does just fine for yourself as you find out. In the beginning, she does seem like a bitch because of one scene, but it was totally justified.
Cali leads a life full of secrets, never staying in one place for too long. It is all because of her father being in the CIA. After an incident at the school she is attending, she gets a text message from her dad (the only thing he ever does) telling her it is time to move. Someone has locked onto her location. She picks up her belongings and heads straight to hopping on a plane. A stranger tries to be nice and gives her a shot of alcohol to sooth her nerves from flying. Next thing you know, that stranger is her new bodyguard sent by her father.
They embark on a journey of self-discovery, trust, love, and ultimately, answers. To which they both desperately need. A former dead Marine and a wounded-soul woman find a safe place between all the lies and secrets. But is it all a lie, and who can you really trust?
Check it out and let me know what you think!
